Upper Sevenmile is a casual day with a few rappels and a
lot of easy to moderate downclimbs. The parking area described here is toward
the exit from the canyon. I prefer this prefer parking here so walking the dirt
road is at the beginning of the route instead of the end.
If you enter the top of this canyon and begin to see
water, it may be a good idea to turn around and fins another adventure. The
dirt here is very slick clay and can become a huge pain when wet. Some
sections of Sevenmile Canyon while easy when dry can become difficult, dirty
and not fun when with too much water.
There are to exits for Upper Sevenmile. The early exit
is to exit the canyon just before rap 4 and exit to the rim and walk back to
the car. The other option is to continue past rap 4 and down to the
confluence with Big East Fork and exit to the rim then walk rolling desert
back to the car. The route described here is for Exit option 2 but the map
	shows both exit options.

		To get to the Trailhead

				Note:
There is a maze of roads on Ticaboo Mesa making it a good idea
to study the map ahead of time and keep a close eye on the map
				as you drive.

From Hanksville, UT., drive south on highway 95 for 26 miles to
the junction of highways 95 and 276.

From the junction, drive south on HWY-276 for 25.6 miles then
turn left (east) onto BLM dirt-road 13400 between mile markers
				25 and 26 (extTicaboo1).

About 1.5 miles from the highway is a junction (TicabooDP-01)
of BLM roads, 13400 continues east and 13410 branches off to the
south.  Continue east on BLM road 13400.  Note: If you were headed
to the Smith Fork area you would turn south onto BLM road 13410.

About 2 miles farther is another junction
(TicabooDP-02) of BLM roads, 13400 continues east and 13420
branches off to the south. Continue east on BLM road 13400.
Note: BLM road 13420 to the south goes out to Cane Spring Well
				about 1.25 miles south.

About 0.2 miles farther is short side road (TicabooDP-03) on the
left (north) that goes to a camp area.
Stay right to
continue on BLM road 13400.  Beyond this point the roads
				will have intermittent rough sections.
About 0.37
miles past here is a fork in the road where the two roads rejoin
a short distance later.  The low road is typically the
				smoothest.

About 1.7 miles farther is another junction (TicabooDP-04) of
BLM roads (13400 continues north-ish and 13430 branches off to
				the south).
Continue north on BLM road 13400.
Note: If you were going to the roads between Warm Springs Creek
and Sevenmile Creek, you would turn south onto BLM road 13430.

About 0.3 miles farther is another junction (TicabooDP-05) of
BLM roads (13400 continues northeast and 13440 branches off to
				the north).
Continue straight northeast on BLM road 13400.
Note: BLM road 13440 to the south goes out to Colt Spring Well
				about 0.4 miles north.

About 0.5 miles farther is a junction (TicabooDP-06) of BLM
roads (13400 continues northeast and 13450 branches off to the
				north).
Continue straight northeast on BLM road 13400.

About 0.9 miles farther is a junction (TicabooDP-07) of BLM
roads (13400 continues northeast and 13430 branches off to the
				south).
Turn south onto BLM road 13430.
Note: If you were
going to Tough, SF Ticaboo or Sleepytime Trio Canyons you would
continue northeast on BLM road 13400.

About 700 feet farther is a fork in the road (extWarmSpring).
At this fork veer right and and travel south toward the Warm
				Springs area.

Drive the road south for about 2.21 miles 3.6 miles to where the
road makes a turn to the left (west).  Park here at this
turn (PkMainFork).  There is no specified parking spot here
so find a comfortable place to pull off the road near the corner
				here.

To leave the Exit Vehicle / Escape Pod

No exit vehicle is needed.  This is done as a loop route.

														The Approach:
														From the parking spot (PkMainFork)
														walk north east up the
														dirt road for about 0.6
														miles.

														Leave the road after
														getting around a minor
														hill (7MileMn01) off to
														your right (east) and
														walk east across rolling
														desert about 650 feet to
														subtle saddle. There is
														no landmark here. Use
														GPS or good map reading
														skills to stay on
														course.

														Walk across the desert
for about 500 feet to a
														subtle saddle
														(7MileMn02) then walk
														east toward the head of
														Sevenmile.

														About 0.3 miles east is
the top of a gully to
														scramble down
														(7MileMn03) to get into
														Sevenmile (y7Mile-Tp).

														The Canyoneering / Technical Section:

Once down in
														Sevenmile (y7Mile-Tp)
														walk / scramble south
														down Sevenmile.

														A little over 500 feet
														down canyon is a short
														section (7MileMn04) with
														a couple potholes and
														short downclimbs. Easily
														bypassed up and over on
														the LDC side.

														About 400 feet farther
														is a narrow section
														(7MileMn05) with a
														couple small potholes
														and a downclimb of about
														8 feet.

														Shortly down canyon is a
														drop (7MileMn06) of
														about 15 feet that can
														be easily downclimbed
														with a handline set from
														an anchor. Canyon stays
														narrow for about 150
														feet with one 5 foot
														downclimb in there.

														About 500 feet farther a
														drainage joins in
														(7MileMn07) from LDC as
														the wash opens up to
														wide easy wash walking.

														About 0.23 miles farther
														raps 1 and 2.

														Rap 1 (d7MileR1-2) is
														anchored from a rock
														about 6 feet back and
														drops about 12 feet over
														boulders into deep slot.
Rap 2, at the bottom of
														rap 1 anchored from a
														large boulder and drops
														about 15 feet.
Raps 1
														and 2 could be combined
														into one rap but the
														pull would likely be
														problematic.
The slot
														after these raps is
														short but pretty.

														About 650 feet farther
														is a downclimb
														(7MileMn08) of about 8
														feet over boulders where
														a handline may be useful
														but not mandatory.
														Optionally you could
														bypass this drop by
going up and over on the
														RDC side.

														About 350 feet farther
														is an easy downclimb
														(7MileMn09) of about 6
														feet. Followed by a
														couple more shorter
														downclimbs.

														A little over 300 feet
														farther is rap 3.

														Rap 3 (d7MileR3) is
														anchored from a rock at
the top of the drop and
														drops about 15 feet over
														a huge boulder to a
														large hole that will be
														a super slick muddy mess
														if water is present.

														The canyon stays deep
														and narrow for about 250
														feet down canyon after
rap 3 and has 3 easy
														downclimbs of about 6
														feet each.

														Shortly down canyon is a
														downclimb (7MileMn10) of
														about 15 feet easily
														slide / downclimbed
														followed by an 8 foot
														easy downclimb just
														before reaching the
														confluence with the
														Little East Fork. Both
														downclimbs drop into
														areas where water would
														equal lots of slick
														clay.

														Just after these
														downclimbs is the bottom
														of (y7MileLEF-Bt) the
														Little East Fork of
														Sevenmile Canyon where
														it joins in from LDC
														(east).

														Shortly after passing by
														the bottom of Little
East Fork is a set of
														boulders (7MileMn11) to
go under then an 8 foot
														downclimb on the RDC
														side of the final
														boulder.

														About 450 feet farther
														is a deep cross joint
														(7MileMn12) drops in on
														the RDC (west) side.

														Almost 200 feet farther
														the LDC side wall looks
														like you can easily
														scramble up
														(7MileMn13-EE) the LDC
														(east) side to exit here
														and rim walk up along
														the north side of Second
														Guess Fork. This has not
														been confirmed but looks
														like it would go.

														About 150 feet farther
														is a section of boulders
														(7MileMn14) to downclimb
														through where you can
														climb down through a
														rabbit hole. Followed
shortly by a 6 foot easy
														stem style downclimb.

														About 300 feet farther
														is the bottom (ySecondBt)
														of Second Guess Fork
														where it drops into
														Sevenmile Canyon.

														About 850 feet farther
														is the down canyon end
														(j7MilEx1RP-01) of a
														section about 150 feet
														long where the RDC
														(west) side walls are
low and have a few spots
														where you can scramble
														up. Scrambling up the
														down canyon end of this
														section provides the
														easiest access.
														Continue down canyon
														past this early exit for
														about 230 feet to the
														top of rap 4.

														Note:
														If you intend to use
														this early exit,
														scramble up out of the
														wash and travel northish
														up the slopes. Just down
														canyon of this exit the
														canyon slots up again
														and rap 4 is encountered
														about 230 feet down
														canyon. If you miss this
														climb out spot and
														mistakenly get to rap 4,
														go back up canyon 230
														feet to find this exit.

														Rap 4 (d7MileR4)
														can be anchored from
rocks at the top of the
														drop and drops down the
														LDC side of a huge
														boulder a total of about
														20 feet over 2 stages
														around and under a the
														boulder.

														Note:
														Skilled
														downclimbers can
														downclimb rap 4 with
														partner assist and a
														short rope. The first
														person down can use a
														handline provided by
														someone at the top. The
														first person down can
														then stay at the bottom
														of the first stage to
														partner assist others
														through the first stage
														then follow down the
														second stage which is
														easy.

														About 600 feet farther
														is a short section
														(7MileMn15) of boulder
														debris to walk / boulder
														hop through.

														About 700 feet down
														canyon is the bottom of
														a chute (j7MilEx2RP-01)
														on the RDC (west) side
														to start the beginning
														of Exit Two from the
														Seven Mile Canyon
														system.  The chute
														looks like it will be
														steep and difficult to
														climb up but actually
														goes pretty easily.

														Note:
														This chute may be easily
														overlooked when
														traveling down
														Sevenmile Canyon since
														it goes up steeply in
														the up canyon
														direction.  If you
														miss this climb out spot
you will get to the bottom of
														Big East Fork about
														140 feet down canyon on
														the LDC (east) side.
														If that happens go back
														up canyon about 140 feet
														looing for the steep
														rugged chute.  FYI
														the confluence with Big
														East Fork has odd
														geometry and is also
														easily overlooked but
														very obvious when
														looking for it.
														Pay attention so you do
														not find yourself
														wondering way down into
														lower Sevenmile Canyon.

														The Exit:

From the
														base of the chute
														(j7MilEx2RP-01) start up
														the chute.
														The chute looks like it
														will be a difficult
														climb out but actually
														goes pretty easily.
														The first couple hundred
														feet the chute is steep
and has a lot of loose
														rock so be careful about
														what you trust.  At
the top of the chute you
														will find yourself on
slick rock that is a lot
														more solid.

														From the top of the
														chute continue northwest
														following a fault line
														in the slick rock.
														Following up this fault
														involves walking up a
														steep slope and a couple
														short spots of easy
														scrambling.  About
														0.22 miles up the
														slickrock will top out
														just after scrambling up
														another very short chute
														(j7MilEx2RP-02).

														After topping out on the
														slickrock
														(j7MilEx2RP-02) you will
be on a large dirt ledge
														/ shelf just below the
														rim.  Right at the
														top out is also the
														bottom of a rubble pile
														to the northwest
														creating a break in the
														rim.  Route find
														your way about 350 feet
														up the rubble pile to
														the top of the rim
														(j7MilEx2RP-03).

														To finish the exit up
														out of Sevenmile walk
														northwest about 0.55
														miles across rolling
														desert back to the
														parking spot
														(PkMainFork).

														Note:
														If you were going over
														to the Double Deuce
														Parking spot you would
														walk southwest across
														rolling desert about 0.8
														miles going around
														various small drainages
														making your way back to
														that parking spot.

If traveling up from below the confluence the Big East Fork is to the right (east) and is visually the larger looking of the two. If traveling down the Big East Fork to here the up canyon direction in the main Seven Mile Creek is small and easily goes un-noticed.
About 140 feet up the Main Seven Mile Canyon from here is a chute to start an exit up out of the system to the west.

Elev: NaN FeetBottom of a chute on the RDC (west) side to start the beginning of Exit Two from the Seven Mile Canyon system. The chute looks like it will be steep and difficult to climb up but actually goes pretty easily. The first couple hundred feet the chute is steep and has a lot of loose rock so be careful about what you trust.
Note:
This chute may be easily overlooked when traveling down Sevenmile Canyon since it goes up steeply in the up canyon direction. If you miss this climb out spot you will get to the bottom of Big East Fork about 140 feet down canyon on the LDC (east) side. If that happens go back up canyon about 140 feet looing for the steep rugged chute. FYI the confluence with Big East Fork has odd geometry and is also easily overlooked but very obvious when looking for it. Pay attention so you do not find yourself wondering way down into lower Sevenmile Canyon.
