Smooth Operator Care
Polycarbonate is sometimes used in making outdoor signs.
Manufacturers suggest a life span of 5 to 10 years used in this
manner since UV can degrade polycarbonate over time. Under
normal circumstances a Smooth Operator will see a lot less sunlight than
an outdoor sign. In reality it should last a lot longer but it
is suggested that a Smooth Operator be replaced after 3 to 4 years.
They are not Expensive and your life does hang on your Smooth
Operator
so consider replacing it every few years.
Your Smooth Operator needs no regular cleaning or maintenance, but if
you take pride in your Smooth Operator and enjoy keeping it clean, use
nothing but mild soap and water to clean your Smooth Operator.
Just to be on the safe side keep all harsh chemicals away from your
Smooth Operator. Acetone (commonly used as nail polish remover) is
one of the chemicals you definitely need to keep away from your
Smooth Operator. Acetone can weaken polycarbonate (Lexan) on
contact to the point it will snap easily by hand.
The polycarbonate is only weak when there is still liquid acetone in
contact with it. If the acetone is allowed to evaporate and
dry completely the Smooth Operator will return to being strong.
However if your Smooth Operator does come in contact with acetone or
other harsh chemicals, throw it away and get a new one. Check
out this page about
Polycarbonate
(Lexan) versus Acetone.
Each time you use the Smooth Operator visually inspect it. Discontinue
use if the Smooth Operator shows signs of cracking or major deformation.
